Who can open the account:

• A natural/ legal guardian on behalf of a Girl Child.

Age Limit

• Till a girl attains an age of 10 years.

Maximum number of accounts:

• Upto two girl children or more than two in case of twins/triplets as second birth or the first birth itself results in twins / triplet girl children.
• However, if the first birth itself results in more than two girl children, girls born after the twins/triplets will not be eligible to open Sukanya Samridhhi accounts.

Minimum and Maximum Amount of Deposit:

• Min Rs. 250 of initial deposit with multiple of fifty rupees thereafter with annual ceiling of Rs.150000 in a FY.

Tenure of the Deposit:

• 21 years from the date of opening of the account.

Maximum period upto which deposits can be made:

• 15 years from the date of opening of the account.

Interest on Deposit:

• As notified by the GOI, interest shall be calculated for the calendar month on the lowest balance in the account between the close of the fifth (5th) day and the end of the month and credited to the account at the end of the Financial Year.

Tax Rebate:

• As applicable under section 80C of the IT Act, 1961

Irregular Payment/ Revival of account:

• By payment of penalty of Rs.50 per year along with the minimum specified amount per year

Withdrawal :

• 50% of the balance lying in the account as at the end of the previous Financial Year for the purpose of higher education after attaining the age of 18 years or has passed 10th standard, whichever is earlier.

Premature Closure:

• Allowed in the event of death of the account holder or in cases of extreme compassionate grounds such as medical support in life threatening diseases of the account holder/or death of the guardian causing undue hardship in continuing the account after submission of documentary proof/medical reports.
• In case of marriage of the account holder after 18 years of age, account can be closed before 21 years after submission of proof of attaining 18 years of age and a declaration to this effect.
